About
This project is an intersection between the public library and the media.
We were curious about how public libraries balance incongruent values, such as preserving high culture versus providing access to inclusive or popular collections.
As you would expect, there are many different stakeholders at play who all have differing opinions about what the public library is and should be. In an environment where public libraries are increasingly called on to justify their economic value, this discussion has attracted the attention of broader stakeholders, including the mass media. Our project specifically analyzed articles about the public library in The Globe and Mail since 1860.
